Principal Engineer (semi-retired)
Email: dudley.benton@gmail.com
Summary: I have been working in the power and
process industries since 1980. During this time I have successfully completed
projects for many power-producing utilities in North America and around the
World, working with coal, oil, and gas fired conventional plants, combined
cycle plants, nuclear plants, and alternative fuel plants, as well as in such
process industries as paper mills and air separation plants. I have also
completed many projects in the associated environmental areas, including
thermal and hazardous materials transport, for the Department of Energy, the
Department of Defense, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Army Corps of
Engineers.
Education: University of Tennessee-Knoxville: Ph.D. Heat Transfer 1982; Florida Atlantic University: M.S. in Ocean Engineering (not oceanography) 1977, B.S. in Ocean Engineering (with Honors) 1974; Activities and Societies: Pi Tau Sigma (Engineering Honor Society) Phi Kappa Psi (Scholastic Honor Society).
Experience: Principal Performance Engineer at
McHale & Associates November 2007 - present: Power plant
performance testing, analysis, optimization, and diagnosis; also responsible
for writing and reviewing of test procedures and models; also responsible for
technical direction of less senior engineers (for a variety of clients in the
power and process industries) Engineer/Computer Model Developer at Dynamic
Solutions July 1999 - October 2007: Surface water, sediment
transport, contaminant transport, power plant thermal discharges, cooling
towers, 3D interactive graphical interfaces for training and integral secure
inventory management of radioactive material as well as an interactive
walk-through tour of the proposed Manhattan Project Museum (for the Department
of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and
the Army Corps of Engineers) Engineer/Computer Model Developer at P-Squared
Technologies January 1994 - June 1999: 3D finite element
models, surface water flow, groundwater flow, and contaminant transport,
including technically correct animations of hazardous materials migration (for
the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the Environmental
Protection Agency) Engineer/Computer Model Developer at TVA May 1980 - December
1993: Nuclear and coal-fired power plant operational
simulation and optimization, long-range environmental impact studies, heat and
mass transfer in cooling towers, chemical reactions and combustion processes.
